Anyone else have the misfortune of running into a multiplayer dictator? You know the ones, people who run around, screaming into their mics "HEAL ME!" "SOMEONE SAP THAT SENTRY!" "SOMEONE GO DEMOMAN AND ATTACK TO THE LEFT!" "OMG, WTF MAN? WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP ME!!????11" "You guys all suck, I'm great, we only lost because of everyone else but me!"

I had one just earlier today on the SC server #1. Some guy named "Lucky Strike", a good player no doubt, I came first a few times and he was always around, if not higher than me for a lot of the match, but he refused to leave his finger off the talk button. At first it was alright (he was giving advice, calling out where the enemy were coming from, AND he sounded somewhat like Borat, which made me laugh a bit) but then, after his engineer nest was rushed since someone was in his way, or rather, trying to heal himself on Lucky's dispenser.

That made him start shouting and whining constantly, we were now losing so he decided it would be a good idea to rant about his busted nest, and how because of it we lost the round (FYI, and just as proof that he was just being egotistical, his nest was hidden in that dark pipeway corridor above the second blu cap on the granary, so his turret had about a meter of coverage from the front)
even though I could tell we lost because the other side simply uber-rushed us big-time. Well, I say we lost but it was a stalemate, so things went to sudden death

It didn't end with the start of sudden death, Lucky went as a soldier, and our engineers put dispensers here and there, and he started shouting at everyone to build them, demanding to know where they were, and since he got injured after all the engineers were dead and/or their dispensers were destroyed, he screeched about how "you idiots didn't build dispensers! Try listening next time!!"

Ugh......*sigh*. Anyway, now that I've ranted, I'd like to hear your tales of mindless dictators, and the folks who've ruined your games in the past, so we can either avoid or join the opposite team of these folks who feel the need to run (or should that be 'ruin?) the game.

These are what we in the business call noobs, here is a short instructional cartoon explaining.

Thing is, he knew what he was doing. He was getting scores equivalent to my own, he just complained about everyone else. Now, don't get me wrong, a lot of our side was making rookie mistakes (oh you silly spies and your teleporters....it's like moths to a flame) but usually you just live with it and do the best you can, make them learn by experience.

This guy was doing well, just being a total asshat about it. Anyone know the name for guys like that?

Occasionally I have become annoyed with newbs/noobs/stats whores/whatever, like yesterday night whilst playing wolf my team refused to help me attack B (except one guy, 'deadleg' or something) even after we had already taken A, on a team of 6 or 7 players we had two snipers and a soldier who stayed in our spawn shooting at the enemy still crowding round A. At a couple of moments I did have to type in teamsay: "ATTACK B!!!!" or "WHY ARE YOU STAYING IN SPAWN?!" I never normally do that though and I know what you mean about people who constantly do it, especially on mic and I can't stand th people who boast that they only lost because the rest of their team sucks (nearly all the time that's not the case [yesterday on wolf we would have probably lost anyway but we could have tried to win at least] and the people that say are never that good anyway). I'm not sure 'Dictators' is a good word because sometimes a good/experienced player comes along and although they still 'dictate' the team-play they speak with a good and helpful attitude and really shape some good team game-play. Some of the best team based fps games I've played have been when randoms have appeared doing just that and a public server almost appears to have an actual clan team and sometimes when it's a new map or some people just don't know what they're doing I wish I had the confidence to yell out advice or even orders. It's plain and obvious but how about something like "dick-tators" for the unhelpful and annoying ones.
P.S. Even if it's annoying always try and fix the problem, never switch teams, it just makes it worse.

Im useless at TF2 and generally do listen to advice that im given (yes, i do listen, even if i dont talk!) but if someone wants to bark orders at me, or be rude and up their a*** then i just switch off.. its that selective hearing thing! I work in a customer service call centre so am now very well trained in 'selective hearing'
Or... option 2.. just tell them to quit their whining cos its getting rather boring (*with a large smile on yr face knowing that person is probably the one from Badgers cartoon*)

But i think the word best to describe this game is "TEAMWORK", winning or losing its all about taking part...

i sometimes try to get my team to do stuff by asking

a few years ago i was know for being a person that screamed down the mic when new commers wouldn't try and play ans a team and just spawn camped on 1.6
but i have calmed down alot and i dont take the game to heart any more

I agree with that!!

Sometimes the opinion of whether someone is doing the "dictating" well depends on whether your team wins the round or not!! Rounds in TF2 are easily won by the team whose classes work well to support each other.

There's dictating a match, and that's great.

Dictating a team, however, tends not to be. While this is TEAM fortress, having teammates tell you what to do at all times is not my idea of fun. Seriously, who here enjoys it when someone starts telling them what to do? You're happily healing people, and suddenly you get someone say "GET OUT OF MY TURRETS WAY!!" when you're obviously healing the guy pushing forward, or demanding you build dispensers where he tells you to? That's the form of dictation I'm against.

Anyway, on a light note, rather than make a whole new topic, and I generally dislike tooting my own horn, but.... woo, I'm on the top 50 players this month! (That is, as of this moment, of course it might change, but as of 3:25am, 11/1/08, I'm #50!)

On a negative note, it's a shame so many people whine over every single thing. I was playing SC #2, on 2fortified just 10 minutes ago, and there was a dude called the mob, only spelt with various symbols. He played as a scout exclusively from what I could tell, and was pretty bat obsessive.

He was pretty good, no denying that, but it looked like he was just there for himself, and detested dying at all. He killed me twice with ease, once as an engineer and again as a spy, batting each time.

I figured it was time to play anti-types, so I went pyro, and proceeded to roast him twice in return. So, what does he do? He starts name-calling, whining, saying I'm lame and other crap. Funny, last time I checked, being a scout and getting roasted by a pyro as you turn a corner seems pretty standard, typical "Damn, better be careful in the future" not a cheap act worthy of insults.

Sorry, again, I'm ranting about others, but I like to keep others aware what they're getting in to when they meet these people, so they can make the logical step to avoid them or ignore them.
